Game 2

Jayden and her Riverview Lady Sharks teammates hit the road for their second game of the season, traveling to Ruskin to take on the Lennard Longhorns. Once again Jay got the start in tonight's contest, playing midfield once more. Unfortunately, the Sharks found themselves in an early hole, after Lennard converted on a corner kick to grab the lead. They would widen their lead moments later after play resumed, as they were able to convert on a long shot from well outside the box that soared over the Sharks keeper's head. Riverview didn't let the early deficit get them down, as they managed to get on the scoreboard with a pass to the center of the box that resulted in a battle for the ball, which Riverview eventually won and knocked into the net for their first goal of the season. A short while later Jay would find the ball on her foot, and she fed a long pass up the middle of the field to a streaking teammate. Once the Longhorns goalie came out to play the ball and missed, it was an easy goal for the Sharks to knot the game up at 2-2. Water break came, and it was the Longhorns that broke the tie shortly after coming out of the break, with the goal coming on a long kick that was out of reach of the Riverview keeper, making it a 3-2 game. The Sharks had a couple chances to tie things up before getting a quality chance on a corner kick, which they wound up converting to even things up at three goals apiece once again. A Riverview turnover led to a breakout for the Lennard girls, and they would once again convert a long kick into a goal. This one appeared to have been offside's to me, but it wasn't called and the goal stood, making it a 4-3 game, which is how the first half would come to an end.

The Longhorns would widen their lead early in the second half, kicking in a rebound of a shot that the Sharks keeper couldn't corral, making it a 5-3 game. Unfortunately for the Sharks and their supporters, that would be it for the scoring. The Sharks would fall to 0-2 on the season.
