| Jayden and her Riverview Lady Sharks JV flag football teammates
took to their home field today to take on the Alonso Ravens. Jay was
told during the day that she probably wouldn't see the field much
today because of how good Alonso is, and I think that got into her
head a little bit. She found herself watching from the sidelines
during the opening half, but after getting some coaching in the
third quarter was finally inserted into the game for her first flag
football action. Although she wasn't targeted on any of the plays
while she was on the field, she looked comfortable during the game
action. I posted a recap of the similarities, differences, and
scoring on the bottom of the schedule page. Hopefully that helps you
(and me) understand the rules a little better.
On to my brief recap. Whoever told Jay that Alonso was good
wasn't wrong. The two teams played a tight first quarter, though
Riverview definitely struggled on offense. Their first drive ended
in a punt, while two more ended with an interception during the open
twelve minutes. Alonso was forced to punt on their opening drive as
well, but they managed to drive down the field for a touchdown after
intercepting the Sharks for the first time. A successful extra point
attempt made the score 7-0 in favor of the Ravens. Alonso would
maintain possession of the ball in the second quarter after their
second interception off of a Sharks pass in the first quarter. They
would once again convert a Riverview turnover into a touchdown ,
though they would miss the extra point try, making it a 13-0 game.
The next Riverview possession would end in yet another interception,
this one returned for another Alonso touchdown. A successful extra
point attempt made it a 20-0 game. Riverview finally found some
success on their next drive, though it didn't start well. A bad snap
set the team in an early hole, and they missed on their next pass
attempt. They hit on their third play of the drive, when a short
pass led to a long touchdown run, giving them their first score of
the season. They didn't have any luck on their extra point attempt,
so the score was now 20-6. Alonso would answer right back on their
next possession, on an almost identical score as the Riverview
touchdown - a short pass and a long run following the completion.
Unfortunately for the Sharks, the Ravens were successful on their
extra point attempt, and the score was now 27-6. That would be the
			score heading into halftime.
Both teams were unable to score on their opening possession of
the second half. Alonso had to punt, while Riverview turned the ball
over on downs. Alonso scored their final touchdown of the game on
their second possession of the half on a long touchdown pass. Their
extra point attempt was successful, making it a 34-6 game. The rest
of the game resulted in no further scoring. Jayden did get on the
field following the final Alonso touchdown, though she wasn't
targeted on any of the plays. It was good for her to get in the game
and get a feel for the action despite the outcome of the game.
Better luck next time, girls! |
