| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates took on the
Bloomingdale Rajun' Bulls tonight. It didn't take long for them to
find themselves behind, however, as just 80 seconds in a
Bloomingdale skater beat Drew back into his offensive zone to tap a
rebound in behind the Ice Sharks goalie, giving them an early 1-0
lead. The Bulls added to their lead, scoring on a 4-on-1 break,
sliding the puck through the 5-hole, making it a 2-0 game not even
four minutes in. The Ice Sharks finally broke through at the midway
mark of the period, thanks to a beautiful pass across the crease
that was tapped in for their first goal of the game, closing the
deficit to 2-1. Unfortunately, that was it for the Sharks in the
opening frame. The Rajun' Bulls would score two more goals in a 45
second span, both on big rebounds left by the Ice Sharks goalie. The
two goals would give Bloomingdale a 4-1 lead heading into the first
intermission. The second period did not get off to a good start
for the Riverview team, as Bloomingdale scored on a breakaway not
even two minutes in, despite the Ice Sharks defenseman clinging to
his hip the entire way down the ice. The early score made it a 5-1
game. Riverview didn't waste any time answering back, scoring just
25 seconds later, closing the gap to three goals once again. Despite
a ton of shots on goal, neither team was able to score over the
			remainder of the period.
The final frame saw the Riverview squad get off to a fast start,
scoring on their first shot just 23 seconds in on a nice saucer pass
that was backhanded in to the net, making it a 5-3 game and giving
them hope. With just a little over seven minutes remaining
Bloomingdale would score again, on another rebound that was scored
over the outstretched Ice Sharks goalie. They would net their 7th
goal of the game with four and a half to play on another score off
of a rebound, this one was tapped in. That score made it a 7-3 game.
With 3:35 to go Bloomingdale would take a tripping penalty, giving
Riverview a powerplay. They would also go ahead and pull their
goaltender, giving them a 2-man advantage. Unfortunately it was the
Bulls who took advantage of the situation, scoring an empty net goal
to make it an 8-3 game with just under three minutes to play. The
Riverview squad didn't give up despite the score, and they netted
their final goal with less than a second remaining to make it an 8-4
final. Although it wasn't the outcome we wanted, this game seemed to
represent some progress for the Ice Sharks. |
