| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates took to the ice to
play the Riverview Ice Sharks tonight, in a battle of Blue vs. Gray.
Drew and his Blue side got off to a fast start, and it looked like
this contest was going to be a runaway for them. Although the Gray
side dominated in shots on goal, it was the Blue team that took
advantage of their higher quality opportunities. Just three and a
half minutes in they scored on a near-breakaway, grabbing the early
1-0 lead. That goal stood for a majority of the opening period,
until the Blue side scored two quick goals with just under three
minutes remaining. The first score came on a nearly identical
breakaway type of play as the first goal, while the second came off
a defensive zone faceoff win that was fired up and over the Gray
goalkeeper. The 3-0 lead would stand for the remainder of the
period. The second period did not go the way that the Blue side
would have liked, as they were outshot 20-4 in the period, and they
allowed the Gray side to get back into the game. The first Gray goal
came off of a juicy rebound that they were able to tap in with just
under 10 minutes remaining in the period. That closed the deficit to
a 3-1 margin. With four minutes remaining the Gray squad got their
second goal, thanks to a beautiful pass across the crease that they
were able to slip in under the Blue goalie's pads to make it a 3-2
game. The Gray team tied the game at 3-3 with just under three
minutes to play on another rebound shot that went up and over the
Blue goalie. The Gray team kept peppering the Blue net, but they
were unable to score on any of their final five shots of the period.
They would go into the final frame tied 3-3.
The Blue team scored on their first shot of the third period,
thanks to a sweet pass that found an open skater on the opposite
side of the net that was easily deflected in to give them a 4-3
lead. The Blue side finally controlled the puck after being outshot
severely in the first two periods, but they weren't able to widen
their lead any further. It looked like they would at least be able
to hold on to their lead, but then with just under three minutes to
play in the contest the Gray team found the puck in the middle of
the ice and fired a backhand shot that went bardown to tie the game
at four goals apiece. Despite each team getting a couple more
chances to try to take the lead, it wasn't meant to be for either of
them, and the game would end in a 4-4 tie. Tonight's game was a good
effort by both Riverview teams! |
