| I missed tonight's game due to work, so I don't have a thorough
recap to share with you today. Based on the scoresheet that Tara
provided, here is what I can gather: The first period seemed to be
pretty even between the two teams. In fact, Riverview got on the
board first, scoring at the 7:42 mark on a shot that sailed over the
goaltender's shoulder on the upper left side, giving them the game's
opening goal and the early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, they couldn't
carry that lead into the intermission, as the Plant squad tied that
game up with just under three and half minutes to play on a shot
that slipped under the Ice Sharks goalie's leg. That 1-1 score would
hold until the second period, and the Plant team would hold a slight
edge in shots on goal, at 9-8.
The ice tilted to the Plant end in the second, as they would
outshoot the Riverview side by an 8-3 margin. They didn't take long
to score in the period, either, as they netted their first goal less
than two minutes in, giving them their first lead of the game. It
took a while before another goal took place, but it was once again
the Panthers who found the back of the net, this time on a
wrap-around shot with just over four minutes to play in the period.
Thankfully that was all the damage the Ice Sharks would allow, as
they headed into the final period trailing by two goals.
The shots on goal in the third were fairly close, with the
Panthers holding a slight 9-7 edge this time, but the scoring was
definitely not as close. The Panthers scored early and often in this
period, getting their first just ninety seconds in. A second
wrap-around goal came less than two minutes later, widening the
margin to 5-1. They would go on to add a sixth goal less than a
minute later, as the goals began to pile up. The final goal of the
game came with just over ninety seconds to play in the period,
making it the 7-1 score that would hold until the final buzzer.
Tough game for the Ice Sharks. Next time, boys! |
