| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates took on the Newsome
Wolves Blue team in a late, late night game tonight at TGH Ice Plex.
The action went back and forth up the ice, though it didn't result
in much scoring. With just under seven minutes remained the Ice
Sharks took a tripping penalty, which ended up leading to the first
goal of the game when the Newsome team caught a fortunate break
thanks to a pass that went through the top of the crease, deflected
off of a Riverview defenders skate, and caromed into the back of the
net, giving the Wolves the 1-0 lead with just over five minutes
remaining. That would be it for the scoring in the opening period,
as the Ice Sharks were unable to even up the score. The second
period was dominated by the Wolves, but the only scoring in the
period would once again come on a power play, as Riverview was
called for interference with just under nine and a half minutes to
play. With just twenty seconds to go in the penalty, the Newsome
forward was able to fire home a shot from inside the left circle
that went up and over the Ice Sharks goaltender. Newsome's second
power play goal of the game gave them a 2-0 lead, which would stand
			into the final intermission.
Riverview finally got a power play opportunity of their own just
thirty seconds in to the period when Drew managed to draw a
cross-checking penalty on a Wolves skater. Unfortunately, despite
getting some quality looks on goal, the Ice Sharks were unable to
score. Riverview gave Newsome their third power play of the game
with just under five minutes to play, as they were once again called
for tripping a Wolves skater. Thankfully the Ice Sharks were able to
kill this penalty off, preventing the Newsome lead from growing
further. Finally, with just 1:25 to play, the Ice Sharks broke
through. They had gone quite some time without getting a shot on
goal, but they made this one count, firing home a shot from the left
circle that went up and over the Newsome goaltender. The goal
narrowed the deficit to 2-1, but that was as close as they could
make it, despite getting the last three shots of the game on the
Wolves net. The final whistle blew with the score still at 2-1, with
the Ice Sharks on the short end of the stick. Next time, boys! |
