| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates returned to Lakeland
Ice Arena tonight, this time to face off against the Newsome
Wolverines in their second matchup of the season. Tonight's game got
off to a slow start, as neither team was able to find the back of
the net during the open period. Newsome took the only penalty of the
period early on, getting called for holding just 90 seconds in. They
managed to hold the Riverview squad to just a single shot during
their two-minute man-advantage. The period was so slow, that the Ice
Sharks only managed 7 shots on goal while holding the Wolverines to
just a single shot during the entire fifteen minute timeframe. The
second period was better for fans of the Riverview Ice Sharks. With
just over a minute played they already had fired four shots on net,
scoring the games opening goal on a rebound. Newsome would find
themselves down a skater for a large part of the period, thanks to
three penalties, the first of which came from a Wolverines player
tripping Drew. Unfortunately the Ice Sharks weren't able to score on
any of their power play opportunities, 7 shots attempts spread
across their six minutes of man-advantage time. It was until there
was just under two minutes remaining in the period, as a wrist shot
was fired on net from between the circles just inside the blue line,
making it a 2-0 game. One minute later Riverview would score again,
thanks to a wrist shot that found its way through the Newsome
goaltenders five hole to make it a 3-0 game. That would be the score
when the period came to an end, though it probably should have been
a bigger differential considering the 19-4 shot advantage the Ice
			Sharks held in the period.
Riverview would come out firing the puck on net to start the
third, but they couldn't find the back of the net on any of their
opportunities. A little over a third of the way into the period the
Ice Sharks would be called for a roughing penalty, and that provided
the chance that the Wolverines would need, as they were able to take
advantage of their power play opportunity, scoring just before the
power play expired, making it a 3-1 game. Riverview would quickly
regain their three goal lead, however, as they would score on a
wrist shot just seven seconds after giving up a goal. Riverview
would widen their lead a minute later by knocking in a rebound,
making it a 5-1 score. With just fifteen seconds to play, the Ice
Sharks would score tack on the games final goal, firing in a wrister
from the middle of the offensive zone, making it a 6-1 score. The
shots would even out a little more this period, though the Riverview
side still held a 15-8 lead in that stat.
The win was the Ice Sharks seventh of the season, moving them to
7-1 on the season. Way to go Riverview! |
