| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates returned to the ice
to take on Newsome once again, this time against their Wolverines
team, which is essentially the "B" varsity squad. Needless to say,
the Ice Sharks really didn't face much of a challenge during this
contest. The Wolverines got off to a fast start in the opening
period, getting the first shot on goal. That was easily steered
aside by the Ice Sharks goaltender, and then the Riverview team took
the next 13 shots on goal. Five and half minutes into the period
Newsome took a 2:00 interference penalty. Less than a minute later
Riverview took advantage, scoring on a shot that just trickled in
over the goal line, giving the Ice Sharks a power play goal and a
1-0 lead. With just under six and a half minutes remaining Riverview
scored again, this time on a wrist shot that came from a long
rebound, making it a 2-0 game. With just under two and a half
minutes to play it appeared that Drew had been kicked off the ice,
as he skated off angrily, and swearing a bit in the process. Turns
out he was told to go get his mouthpiece, despite his insistence
that the majority of the players on the ice weren't wearing them.
Nonetheless he headed off before returning for one short shift to
end the period. Newsome was called for roughing, but the Ice Sharks
didn't even manage a shot in their 73 seconds of man advantage.
The second period saw a Riverview power play goal just 33 seconds
in, making it a 3-0 score. Riverview would make it 4-0 with just
over twelve minutes to play, as their forward raced down the ice
with the puck, crossed the ice, and fired a wrist shot up and over
the Wolverines goaltender. The Ice Sharks dominated in shots on goal
the rest of the period, but they couldn't add on to their lead. The
second would come to a close with the score 4-0 in favor of the Ice
			Sharks.
Riverview continued to dominate the shots on goal, but were
unable to tack on to their lead. The first thing to happen in the
final fifteen minutes was an interference penalty on Drew, which I
only recorded on my scoresheet as "BS call", which I apparently
strongly disagreed with. This took place with a little over seven
minutes to play. Riverview followed that up with another penalty,
this time for hooking with just over five minutes to play. The Ice
Sharks were able to kill off both penalties. Newsome took a penalty
of their own, a roughing call, with just over three minutes left to
play. The Ice Sharks were able to take advantage of their extra
attacker, scoring a power play goal with two and half minutes to
play on a wrist shot from in close that was deflected into the
Wolverines net, making it a 5-0 game. The Ice Sharks would score
once more, with just 17 seconds to play, making the final score 6-0,
moving the Riverview team to 4-0 on the season. Way to go boys! |
