| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks took on the Mitchell-East Lake
team at Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex tonight. Based on the amount
of players in attendance for each team, this game should have been
no contest in favor of the Sharks. While the Ice Sharks had a full
complement of players, the Mitchell East Lake side only had six
skaters plus a borrowed goaltender. That along meant that this game
was Riverview's to lose. Things didn't exactly start out
promising, however, as it was the Mitchell-East Lake squad that got
off to the fast start, scoring the first goal of the game barely 10
seconds into a power play, thanks to a Riverview interference
penalty that came with 11:21 to go in the period. They would hold
that lead for just over six minutes and were able to keep things
close in the meantime. With just over five minutes remaining the Ice
Sharks would net the tying goal, knotting things at 1-1. Aside from
a couple more Riverview penalties, that would be it for first
			period.
As time went on, you could see the Mitchell-East Lake skaters
begin to tire. It was during the second period that the Riverview
team finally took advantage of their extra manpower on the bench,
though it did take some time. The game remained tied for more than
half of the period before they were able to do so. Despite being
down a man thanks to a tripping penalty, it was the Ice Sharks who
broke the tie, scoring a shorthanded goal on a wrister from the left
circle with five and a half minutes remaining in the period. A
second shorthanded goal came less than twenty seconds later after
another shot trickled through the Mitchell goaltender and a
Riverview skater was able to tap it into the net for a 3-1 lead. The
Ice Sharks had another scoring outburst two minutes later, scoring
their fourth goal of the game with just over three minutes remaining
when a Riverview skater poked at the uncovered puck near the
Mitchell-East Lake goaltenders legs, knocking it into the back of
the net. Thirteen seconds later a near duplicate play went in favor
of the Ice Sharks once again, widening their lead to 5-1. As time
was about to expire, the Ice Sharks had another scoring outburst. A
wrist shot from just inside the blue line settled into the back of
the net with less than nine seconds remaining in the period, making
it a 6-1 score. Another wrist shot from just outside of the blue
line would also find the goal with just 0.01 left on the clock,
ending the period with the Ice Sharks up by a score of 7-1.
Thankfully their was a running clock in the third period, as both
teams wanted this one to end. The long goal of the period came with
just over six minutes on the clock, off of a Riverview stick, making
the score 8-1. Mercifully, that was it for the scoring in this one.
Until next time, Ice Sharks! |
