| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates were in Amalie
Arena, home of the Tampa Bay Lightning, for the first of two games
today, this one against the Freedom Patriots. The first period was a
back and forth affair, with the two teams trading turns in their
offensive ends. Despite the amount of shots on goal, it was the
goalies for each team that dominated the period, until just under 90
seconds remained. With the Ice Sharks moving the puck in their own
zone, and Drew screening the Patriots net, a giveaway led to a
Freedom breakaway that they were able to bury top shelf, giving them
a 1-0 lead late. Riverview would get the final two shots off in the
period, but they were unable to find the back of the net on either
of them. The second period was a different story. After thirteen
and a half scoreless minutes in the first before either team broke
through, it took only 15 seconds in the second for a score to occur.
Once again it was the Patriots finding the back of the net, thanks
to a shot from the right circle that deflected in off of the
Riverview goalie's pads. A little over three minutes later the Ice
Sharks found themselves shorthanded. The puck was sent towards the
Patriots goal, and their goalie came out to play it. The Riverview
skater managed to get to the puck first, and buried the empty-net
goal to narrow the lead to a single goal. Freedom regained their two
goal lead moments later, thanks to a pass that went through the
crease and was easily tipped in to the net from the back side,
making it a 3-1 game. A little over a minute later Riverview
answered back, this time with a rebound shot that they were able to
bury over the Freedom goalie for a 3-2 score. With just under two
minutes remaining, Freedom once again got on the scoreboard after a
shot rebounded out front, leading to a scramble in front of the net
that they were able to tip in, making it a 4-2 game. They would add
on to their lead with 15 seconds remaining, thanks to a Riverview
turnover that led to a wrist shot from between the circles that
settled into the back of the net. The 5-2 score would stand going
			into the second intermission.
The Patriots dominated the third period for the most part,
scoring just two minutes in thanks to another Ice Sharks turnover
that Freedom was able to turn into their sixth goal of the game.
Four and a half minutes later Freedom would score their seventh goal
of the game on a shot from behind the goal that bounced around and
settled into the back of the Riverview goal. Thankfully that would
be the final Freedom goal of the game. Unfortunately, the Ice Sharks
wouldn't be able to find an answer, and they too would go scoreless
for the remainder of the contest. |
