| Apparently I am a bad-luck charm when I attend the games. Not so
much for the team, as the outcomes have all been the same whether I
have been there or not, but for Drew personally. The last game I
attended he only stepped foot on the ice four shifts, some of which
were very short. Tonight, he only managed five shifts, with only one
of those coming in the first. Speaking of the first, there isn't a
lot to report on for the opening fifteen minutes. As I said, Drew
only got the one shift, and I'm not certain why. From a team
perspective, not much happened. Neither side was able to score,
though the Eagles heavily outshot the Ice Sharks - 14-3. Despite
being outshot by such a wide margin, the period would come to a
close with neither team able to find the back of the net.
The second period seemed like it was going to be a mirror of the
first, as the Eagles once again dominated the puck, but neither team
able to break the ice and score. With just under 90 seconds
remaining the Jenkins squad finally broke through, deflecting in a
long shot from the blue line to grab a 1-0 lead. That goal would be
the only one in the middle 15:00, with the Jenkins Eagles taking a
1-0 lead into the final period.
Things kind of fell apart for the Ice Sharks in the third,
despite the Eagles taking a penalty just 30 seconds in. That did
give the Riverview team some life, as they managed the first five
shots of the period. They couldn't take advantage of the power play
or the shot advantage, though. With just over twelve minutes
remaining the Eagles doubled their lead to 2-0 on a backhand shot
off of a long rebound. Riverview would get the next penalty with
just under ten minutes to go, and less than 30 seconds into their
power play the Eagles would make it a 3-0 game. Another penalty
followed a minute later, this time putting the Ice Sharks on the
power play. They finally managed to convert on a man advantage,
tipping in a rebound to make it a 3-1 contest. The final five
minutes were crazy, and the Ice Sharks should have been able to get
back into the game thanks to two Jenkins penalties. Wouldn't you
know it, it was the Eagles who would end up on the positive end
despite being shorthanded on the ice. 30 seconds after taking a
penalty they would tap in the puck following a scrum in front of the
net. The second Eagles penalty led to a two-man advantage for the
Ice Sharks, as they would pull their goaltender in an attempt to
narrow the gap further. Unfortunately with just over three minutes
remaining the Eagles would manage to net an empty net goal, making
it a 5-1 game. That would be it for the scoring, as the Ice Sharks
never even got another shot on net. Better luck next game, Ice
			Sharks! |
