| With two games postponed earlier this week, we were all
expecting the weekend off. At the last minute, a game was
rescheduled for this morning, bright and early. Apparently that
early start time was just a bit too early for the Riverview Ice
Sharks, as the Durant Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just
42 seconds into the contest. The Cougars dominated the action, but
the shots on goal were few and far between. In fact, the next shot
on goal also resulted in a score, and it happened at the 11:41 mark
of the period, off of a Riverview stick, knotting the score at 1-1.
Unfortunately the tied score didn't last very long, as the Cougars
would score less than 40 seconds later, giving them a 2-1 lead that
would last until the end of the period.
The second period wasn't a good one for the Sharks, despite
dominating in the shot category early on. They couldn't get one past
the Cougars goaltender before the Durant team was able to widen
their lead, making it 3-1 a little over four minutes in. About three
minutes later the gap got even bigger, as Durant was able to tack on
yet another goal, making it a 4-1 game. Riverview took a couple of
undisciplined penalties after that - one a 2+10, and the other for
shooting the puck on net after the whistle), but fortunately they
were able to kill both of those off.
Heading into the third period down by a 4-1 score, the Ice Sharks
would have to kick it into high gear if they hoped to mount a
comeback. Thankfully they got off to a fast start, scoring a
shorthanded goal just 19 seconds in to narrow the gap to a 4-2
margin. They out-shot the Cougars by a 9-1 margin in this period,
but wouldn't score again until just over a minute remained in the
game, thanks to a Durant penalty and an extra attacker from an empty
net. The 6v4 advantage led to a 4-3 game, and time to knot things
up. Unfortunately they weren't able to gain possession in the
offensive zone, and they would fall by that 4-3 margin. Next time,
			Sharks! |
