Time for a weekend getaway to one of our favorite places, Walt Disney World!
Despite the increase in park capacity (from 25% to 35%), it still
			isn't easy to get in
to the parks. We were lucky enough to schedule a day inside the
Magic Kingdom park for today, and Disney's Hollywood Studios
tomorrow. Joining me this weekend was Tara, Drew, and Jayden,
			along with Grandpa Gary,
Grandma Terry, Uncle Steve, and Aunt Erica.
We had checked in to the condo yesterday, so we ate breakfast
there before we left this morning. As is always the case when
visiting the Magic Kingdom, our first stop was at the Transportation
and Ticket Center to go through the security screening process, and
then make one of the toughest decisions of the day - monorail or
ferry boat. Because we were sporting two wheelchairs today (Steve,
as usual, and me, sporting a knee that is giving me trouble) we
opted for the ferry, where we wouldn't have to transfer out of them.
Once we arrived in the Magic Kingdom, our first stop was the
popcorn stand just to the left of the Walt Disney World Railroad
station for a new popcorn bucket. While we were here, we also swung
in to guest services at the Main Street Chamber of Commerce to
enroll Steve in the Disability Access Service (DAS).
Now it was time to have some fun! After making a reservation with
the DAS, we stopped by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
to kill some time, with the added bonus that it was a ride that not
all of us have been on before. Next on our list was Tomorrowland
Speedway, which had almost no wait today. No matter how many
times we ride this, one member of our party always ends up in the
super slow car that holds up the entire line of cars! We then headed
			over to the
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train to use our first DAS pass of the day.
With the reduced park capacity some of the lines aren't as long as
they used to be, but it is still nice to be able get a leg up on the
line with the pass. This is one of those rides that we all enjoy,
but dread waiting for because the lines can get excessive at times.
At this point we were beginning to feel a bit hungry, so we
decided to grab a bite at Cosmic Rays Starlight Café.
The nice thing about eating here is that there are plenty of options
for everyone - burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and more. We each found
something to suit us, but struggled in finding a single table to eat
at thanks to the social distancing procedures.
With food in our bellies, we made this mistake of heading to
Space Mountain for our second DAS pass of the day. Well, not all
of us - some of us were smart enough to not ride a rollercoaster
right after eating. Unfortunately, Jayden, Drew, Steven, Tara, and I
were not that smart. Despite the full stomachs, we still had a great
time, and Jay was thrilled that she finally got a chance to ride on
			the right hand track.
At this point our group broke in two, as some of us headed to
Frontierland while others headed to the car to get some forgotten
items (ahem, Grandma Terry, ahem). Once we arrived in Frontierland
we took a ride on Big
Thunder Mountain Railroad, another rollercoaster favorite and
our third DAS pass. We thought about riding Splash Mountain, but the
lines were just too long to wait to get soaked today. While in
Frontierland, we caught a character cavalcade with some famous
Disney characters, such as Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Wendy, Peter Pan,
Pinocchio, Geppetto, Mickey and Minnie Mouse on their very own
float, the Mad Hatter, Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger,
			Mary Poppins, and Bert!
We met back up after the cavalcade ended, and headed toward
Adventureland while we decided on our next... adventure. We ended up
getting a DAS pass for the Jungle Cruise, but while we waited
our turn we decided to fill our Dole Whip cravings at Aloha Isle.
Not all of us like pineapple, but thankfully the raspberry was
			really good as well!
Up next was the Jungle Cruise, which has appropriately
been rethemed as the "Jingle Cruise" for the holidays. I believe
this was the first time that any of us experienced the "Jingle
Cruise", which was a neat twist on the usual ride. Gorilla's in
Santa suits, decorations and presents throughout, all making for a
nice alternative to the standard fare.
We were able to make one final DAS pass before deciding to call
it a day, and that was for the Haunted Mansion. Thankfully
the wait was too long for this one, so we just hung around and took
in the sights before it was our turn. It was enjoyable to be able to
experience another classic Disney attraction, as not everyone in our
			family truly enjoys this ride.
It was after this ride that we decided to call it a day. We once
again took the ferry back to the Transportation and Ticket center,
before loading into our cars for the drive back to the condo. Once
we made it back safely Tara ordered pizza for dinner from a local
pizza place. It certainly hit the spot after a long day in the park! |
