| For the first time since February 17th, 2019, Drew stepped onto
the ice for a competition instead of just an opportunity to skate.
Thanks to a classmates suggestion that he come try out for the team,
Drew is getting the opportunity to play competitive hockey once
again. Largely due to the long layoff and lack of conditioning, Drew
will be joining the junior varsity hockey team for his high school,
the Riverview Ice Sharks. This marks the teams 7th game, although
obviously Drew's first with them. At this point in the season the
team has a record of 2-2-2. This game is the first of two against
the Bloomingdale Bulls, the school's hockey rivals (the two schools
used to combine to form a team). It was also an unusual game in that
all of the action took place in the first period. Riverview opened
the scoring a little over five minutes into the game with a shot
that found it's way past the Bloomingdale goalie. Bloomingdale would
commit a boarding penalty minutes later, giving the Sharks a big
opportunity to widen their lead. Despite numerous shots on goal, the
lead stood at 1-0 when the penalty expired. Riverview would add
another goal a short while later, thanks to a backhand shot that
slipped behind the Bulls goalie. Less than a minute later a hard
wrist shot would give Riverview a 3-0 lead. Bloomingdale narrowed
the lead just 50 seconds later on a dribbler that slipped under the
goalie's pads. The first would come to an end with the Ice Sharks
			holding a 3-1 lead.
The second period was kind of a snooze, as there wasn't much
action at either end of the ice. Riverview ended up taking two
penalties in the period, including a 2:00 tripping call on Drew
(that was questionable). Bloomingdale also had a penalty in the
period, but despite the 6 minutes of power-play time between the two
teams, they only managed a single shot on goal each. The third
period was a short one, as ice time was running out. Bloomingdale
owned the shot advantage this period, but Riverview's goalie and
defense held strong, holding on to secure the 3-0 victory. |
