| Game #2 between Riverview and Mitchell River Ridge took place in
the original opening game time slot, with the opening puck drop
scheduled at 1:30pm. Riverview got off to a fast start in this
one, scoring on their first shot of the game less than a minute in.
The opening goal came off of a nice pass through the crease the the
Sharks player was able to tip in behind the Mustangs goalie. That
would be it for major excitement in the period. Both teams wound up
taking a penalty in the period, but neither was able to convert on
the man advantage. Shots were pretty even, though each team took
turns dominating the puck Riverview controlled the action early, and
Mitchell River Ridge had the late edge.
It took a while for the action to heat up in the second, with a
couple penalties slowing down the flow of the game. It was Riverview
that caught a break late in the period, as they took a long pass
just after completing a line change that got a Sharks player behind
the Mustangs defense. That skater was able to take advantage of his
one on one with the goalie, beating him to give his team a 2-0 lead.
That would be it for scoring in the second period.
The third period was cut short due to a lack of ice time, and
neither team really had a chance to get going. Riverview also took a
couple of slashing penalties that took away their opportunity to
establish a presence in their offensive zone, and as a result gave
up some chances to the Mitchell River Ridge team. Thankfully the
goalie for this game (not their regular goalie, who had a schedule
conflict and was unable to play in this one) stood tall, blanking
the Mustangs for the entire game and securing the 2-0 victory for
the Ice Sharks. Way to go guys! |
