| What was supposed to be a 1:30pm game against the Mitchell River
Ridge Mustangs was bumped to a 9:45am start a day prior, which meant
some scrambling to get all of the kids there. Thankfully we didn't
have any plans for the morning, we had no problem making it. We even
took one of Drew's teammates with us to the rink today. The first
quarter was kind of a back and forth affair, with the Riverview Ice
Sharks getting the first couple of shots on goal, the the Mustangs
getting the next four on net. It was Riverview's next shot that
counted though, as a wrist shot slipped past the River Ridge goalie
6:28 into the game. Riverview would dominate the rest of the period,
but that goal midway through the period wound up being the only goal
			scored.
Riverview again dominated shots on goal in the second period,
outshooting the Mustangs by a wide, wide margin. Unfortunately they
weren't able to score despite the amount of shots. Riverview took an
interference penalty with three minutes to go, then a second penalty
90 seconds later. Those two penalties would come back to haunt them,
as a long shot from just inside the blue line took a bad bounce and
jumped over the Sharks goalie's pads. Riverview rebounded from that
to control the puck, despite being shorthanded for the rest of the
period. They would end up with the final four shots of the period,
			all shorthanded.
The third period was much like the rest of the game, with the
Riverview Ice Sharks dominating the puck and outshooting the
Mustangs by a wide margin. They couldn't find the back of the net,
however, and that led to a Riverview timeout with just over four
minutes remaining in the contest. Thankfully the team responded,
scoring 30 seconds later on a tough angle shot on a breakaway to
retake the lead, this time by a 2-1 score. At the 1:20 mark, the
Mustangs called their own timeout to plan their next moves, which
included pulling their goalie to gain an extra attacker. That would
end up haunting them, however, as Riverview was able to seal the
deal with an empty net goal with just 27.1 seconds remaining, giving
them a 3-1 lead that would wind up as a final. Way to go Ice Sharks! |
