Winter Scrimmage 2

Drew and his Novi FireCats teammates travelled across the state to Kentwood, to take on the Fox Motors Red team, which placed first in their division in Howe 1 Blue. Drew got the start on defense tonight (after starting their previous game at forward), and the two teams played evenly through the first 15 minutes. The FireCats gave up a lot of second chances during this frame, but thankfully none of them came back to haunt them.

It appeared that things were going to slip away from the FireCats in the second period. Fox Motors scored three quick goals in a matter of as many minutes, grabbing momentum along with the big lead. After scoring the games opening goal, Fox scored two minutes later on a play where it appeared that the Novi goalie was sitting on top of the puck. Repeated poking eventually knocked it loose and into the net. The third goal came on a power play on an interference call. Thankfully the FireCats didn't lose their composure at this point, and would stop the bleeding for the remainder of the period.

Novi got on the board early in the third period, scoring just 12 seconds in after grabbing the faceoff. Nearly three minutes later they would score again to narrow the gap to a single goal with a shorthanded attack that found the back of the net. Three minutes after that goal the FireCats would tie the game up at 3-3. Unfortunately for FireCats fans, all of the hard work that they poured into the comeback disappeared when Fox Motors scored what would turn out to be the game winning goal midway through the period. The goal gave them a 4-3 victory in a hard fought contest.
