Game 9

Home Up

March 27th, 2015

Something strange happened during tonight's game for Samantha and her Michigan Impact teammates that I've never seen happen in any of the kids sports before. After starting the game, action was halted due to an injury. At that point, play failed to resume even after the injured player left the field. Apparently the referee's were refusing to work for fear of not getting paid. It seems that the opponent for tonight's game forfeited for not having enough members of the team show up. The girls wound up playing the LA Stars, who had played the game prior to this contest, once the refs got assurance that they would be paid for their services. Officially the game was recorded as a 4-0 win for the Impact team, but in reality the game wound up being a 1-1 draw between the two teams on the field. Sam's team was short players themselves, as they only had one sub for the game, and their regular goalkeeper was absent as well. They wound up with their two of their three best defenders off the field (one absent, one in goal) for much of the game.

The opposing coaches telling the Impact team to keep themselves warmed up in anticipation of play resuming.

Back in action, Sam was doing her best to control the ball while driving down the field.

Sam and an opposing player battling for the ball.

Sam trying to settle down the ball while racing down the field.

Sam lining up a shot...

...and sending it towards the goal as the keeper was out to challenge...

...but sending the ball high and over the net.

Sam settling the ball down and moving it along to a teammate.

The final score of today's game was a 1-1 draw between the two combatants.
